We have written elsewhere on the various ways to find your first job in the yachting industry. Here we concentrate on the more formal route, namely using a specialist recruitment consultant.
As the yachting industry has grown many former yachties have expanded into recruitment consultancy. There are many businesses now offering this service. Originally to be found in the major yachting ports such as Mallorca, Cannes, Antibes, and Antigua, they are now widely spread thanks to the wonder of the internet.
In the superyacht sector many agencies split their recruitment into Captain/deck, Engineer and Interior. Listed below are five recruiters that specialise in the yachting industry;
YPI CREW is a relatively large recruiter based in Antibes. They are registered with the French National Register for Recruiters of Seafarers and they also maintain a voluntary Lloyds Compliance Certificate. They specialise in large super yachts over 35 metres LOA.
BLUEWATER YACHTING is one of the larger crew placement and recruitment agencies with bases in Fort Lauderdale, Palma and Antibes. The company was founded in 1991 and has many years experience. They offer regular seminars and open evenings where they offer advice to prospective candidates looking to improve their CV and interview techniques, etc.
VIKING RECRUITMENT is a well established crew recruitment business based in Dover with other offices in Southampton, Guernsey, Manila and Auckland. They recruit for private yachts and large cruise companies alike. As you would expect, they too are Lloyds Accredited and an MCA certified recruitment agency.
SUPERYACHT CREW AGENCY is another agency compliant with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006. MCA compliant, they offer a service throughout the World via various strategically placed consultants.
ELITE CREW INTERNATIONAL boast to be the first crew agency to become MLC certified. They have bases in Barcelona and Fort Lauderdale and offer a worldwide service and knowledge of Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) and US Coastguard (USCG) regulations and requirements.
