Temperatures can rise above 30°C in summer. Gibraltar has an average 300 days of sunshine a year and the climate is Mediterranean. The sub-tropical sun is tempered by gentle sea breezes in summer. January daytime temperatures are usually around 16oC-18oC and it is possible to top up a tan.
What currency does Gibraltar use?
The official currency is the Gibraltar Pound (GIP), however UK notes and coins are also accepted and have the same value. Please note that Gibraltar Pounds are not accepted in the UK. You will be spending a lot of your time in Spain so please take Euro’s with you. Cash machines are available in most ports during your cruise.
I would like to spend some time in Gibraltar before or after my course. Do you have any information on local facilities?
Please see our website links page, www.jollyparrot.co.uk/links for local hotel information
Can I be contacted whilst sailing?
Mobile phone coverage is good in most ports and messages can be passed on through our head office. Most marinas now host WIFI hotspots.
Will I need a Passport?
Yes, you will need to travel with your passport. There is no visa requirement for British citizens, but non EU citizens may be required to obtain a visa.
What should I wear on my cruise?
You should wear clothing that dries quickly and is comfortable (jeans are not ideal). Soft soled trainers or deck shoes should be worn when on board. It can get chilly in the evenings so you should bring a warm layer, and to protect yourself from the sun a light long sleeve top is ideal. It is easy to get burnt on the water so sun cream should always be applied.
Are there toilet & showering facilities on board?
Our training yachts are equipped with a shower and toilet. Most evenings involve an overnight stop at a marina which provides these facilities ashore.
Do I need travel insurance?
We recommend that you take out a Travel Insurance policy that covers sailing. These companies offer policies that include sailing: GH Insurance Tel: 01892 549822 Bishop Skinner Tel: 02075 665800
