If online theory isn't for you, then how about doing your Yachtmaster theory in our purpose built classroom here in sunny Gibraltar? Or maybe you did your YM Theory many years ago and need to brush up on your knowledge before embarking on your YM Coastal or YM Offshore exam.
You'll spend 7 days in our Gibraltar classroom learning advanced navigation, meteorology and consideration for potential issues associated with longer passages. This will include appropriate management of all aspects of your yacht to maximise crew comfort and safety. At the end of this 40 hour theory course, you will be fully prepared to take the RYA Yachtmaster theory exams. You will need to bring your brain, a pen, a 2B pencil, a rubber, a notepad and a calculator.
This is a shore based course. Accommodation on board is not included.
Subject to availability, we may be able to offer accommodation on board. This needs to be pre-booked at a cost of £60 per night.
What experience do I need?
Ideally, you need RYA Day Skipper or equivalent knowledge. You should be confident in your knowledge of the basics of navigation, meteorology and Rules of the Road.
Check you're up to scratch and confident with all aspects of the Day Skipper syllabus and you'll know you're ready for Yachtmaster Theory.

What's next?
Upon successful completion of this YM Theory course you'll be awarded the RYA Yachtmaster Theory certificate.
Assuming you have the pre-requisites, you'll be ready for the RYA Coastal Skipper Practical. If you are looking to gain qualifications quickly you may wish to consider our Extended Yachtmaster Preparation Course or our Professional Yachtmaster Fastrack Program . We spent a wonderful 11 days in November 2021 with Jolly Parrot. I completed the Coastal Skipper Combined course and my wife the Comp Crew. Instructors Flipper, IanG, Hailey, and Tom were all exceptional in their own unique way and we came away with more rounded skills and knowledge as a result of their patient teaching methods. Clive and Rachel did a fabulous job of shuffling schedules and boats to accommodate our different experience levels. Expect to be challenged on the Coastal Skipper course! We made some abiding memories, some long-term connections and friends, and hope to return soon for the next challenge maybe a mile-builder.
